Hypnotherapy for Fibromyalgia and IBS in Hull & the East Riding
Has your GP, health professional or consultant recommended you look for a hypnotherapist? Supporting your wellbeing alongside your medical care, never instead of it.
Supporting your wellbeing
If you have medical issues, for example fibromyalgia or IBS, I am happy to assess, support and help you in your healing journey. Hypnotherapy works as a complementary tool alongside the care you are already receiving.
Have you been diagnosed with fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterised by widespread pain, extreme fatigue, sleep disturbances, and cognitive issues ("fibro fog"). Symptoms often include muscle stiffness, heightened sensitivity to touch and temperature, headaches, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It affects how the brain processes pain, often causing symptoms to flare up unpredictably.
How can hypnotherapy help?
Hypnotherapy helps manage fibromyalgia by using deep relaxation and focused attention to alter pain perception, reduce stress, and improve sleep, often resulting in fewer painful flare-ups. It acts as a complementary tool to calm the nervous system, addressing chronic pain and associated symptoms like fatigue and anxiety.
Have you been diagnosed with IBS?
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms include persistent stomach cramps, abdominal pain, bloating, and fluctuating bowel habits (loose bowels, constipation, or both). These symptoms often come and go, with flare-ups triggered by stress or food. It is a long-term condition that does not cause permanent damage to the gut.
How can hypnotherapy help?
Gut-directed hypnotherapy (GDH) is a highly effective, evidence-based treatment for IBS that reduces symptoms like pain, bloating, diarrhoea, and constipation in up to 70-80% of patients. It works by calming the brain-gut connection, reducing gut sensitivity, and alleviating stress and anxiety, with benefits lasting for years.
How this sits alongside your medical care
Your medical team stays in charge
Hypnotherapy is complementary. Nothing here replaces the advice, medication or treatment plan you have from your GP or consultant, and I will never suggest otherwise.
We start with an assessment
The free 30 minute consultation covers what you have been diagnosed with, what your flare-ups look like and what you most want to change. Then we decide together whether this is worth pursuing.
Sessions are paced to you
Chronic conditions come with fatigue. Sessions are built around relaxation and breathing first, and we work at whatever pace your body allows on the day.
